Hello

This was cool to see on my tumblr because recently I watched a documentary produced by renowned banjo artist, Bela Fleck, who traveled to East and West Africa to re-discover the banjo’s origins. I’ve taken an African dance class and studied basic patterns of African music - what I know is just a small fraction of Africa’s diversity.

nprfreshair:

A new anthology from the Putumayo label celebrates the variations in African blues. Critic Milo Miles says the collection is delicate, airy and strong all the way through.

Mark Rothko’s “Red on Maroon” (1959).  I saw it today at the Portland Art Museum and the picture here does not bring justice to the actual thing in person. Today was also my first time exposed to his art. I had the pleasure to see this, rather large, piece up close. I really enjoyed this particular piece because after gazing into it for about 20 seconds a door frame appears. I observed Rothko’s subtle use of shading that created a three-dimensional effect which left an impression of a spiritual passage way… and I totally entertained the thought of walking through.

I did these drawings two years ago. I remember when I started drafting… I was at Fishbowl and I just got really into it. I would consider these my first serious drafts as an amateur draw-er, er…. Here, I really experiment with shading oºoºOoº
